You Want Me to Waste Eight Hours Doing What?
When I was little my parents would tell me what time to go to sleep, I never wondered why I just always listened. Now that I'm older my parents go to sleep before me and they have no clue as to what time I go to sleep. Students living at college also determine their own bed time. The thing is now many students, myself included, are not getting enough sleep.
Growing up you also hear that you need to get 8 hours of sleep every night. Let’s face it now that we are older we do not believe we have to get that amount of sleep and at times it seems nearly impossible. A study that was published by the Journal of Adolescent Health in which they examined over 1,000 college students and found that only 30 percent of them slept at least eight hours a night. That means that 70 percent of college students are not getting the proper hours of sleep. (Anderson). It is like an unmanageable balancing act between school, work, studying, homework and a social life. But there has to be a way to manage all of this and still get the right amount of sleep. Right?

Oh boy you have no idea how much sleep I owe my body! haha school is taking over my life and I've been working so hard that I never find time to sleep! I wish i was back to the good old days when my parents made me sleep early :( i miss my bed! And you're right, there HAS to be a way to manage all that! but I can't seem to find it, so when you do..PLEASE let me know! (I really need sleep!!)
ReplyDeleteYes, we never get enough sleep. On top of that, I have classes at 8:15 throughout the weekdays. However, I recently read in one of the article that even a 4 hours of sleep is enough for a human body.I don't exactly remember where I read that article.I am not sure though.
ReplyDeleteThe only dilemma i have at night is: Sleep or Call of Duty. Most of the times, the latter is the winner, and I end up sleeping at around 4 and waking up at 8. As a result, I am always sleepy during classes. This one time I had a 15 minute break during classes. I went to my room, and put a countdown timer for 10 minutes. I slept for 10 minutes, and then went to class!
ReplyDeleteSambid I read the article and it did say in fact that the body can run on only 4 hours of sleep but that is only the case for people that have two copies of the ABCC9 gene, which in rare. So in the case for most of the population we need about 8 hours of sleep per night to function normally.
ReplyDeleteAnd to LedTheZeppelin that is a big problem with why students are not getting the proper amount of sleep. We are simply too distracted by so many other things that sleep does not seem important.
